Karsanji Bhindi, a fifth-generation goldsmith, emigrated from India to the Fiji Islands with the hope of sharing his craft. In , Karsanji, together with his brothers opened their own general merchandise shop on Toorak Road in the Fijian city of Suva. In the same year, they uprooted their store to Mark Street, as Karsanji and his brothers were very determined to get their business off the ground. After investing all their time and energy into the store, the business took considerable time to grow but six years later it had to be uprooted once more to Nina Street, which became the permanent home of Bhindi Brothers.
Since its inception, the Bhindi family demonstrated a commitment to superior quality and customer service which was personally embodied by its founder. In the same year, Karsanji simultaneously embarked in land development projects under the same company, Bhindi Brothers with tremendous grit and incredible tenacity. Bhindi Brothers, a partnership was transformed into K. Bhindi Brothers Ltd, a limited company. This was the first, substantial step of the family into the corporate world.
At the tender age of 15, Karsanji eldest son Vinod, began to work on the business too, after school and on weekends. Vinod was faced with the challenge of whether to continue with his studies, or assist his father with our family business?
Innately, he chose his family and formally began his retail jewelry business and land development career at the age of Determined to become a master of jewelry trade and a pioneer of real estate, Vinod immersed himself in work from dawn to late night, managing the day-to-day operations of their jewelry showroom in Fiji.
He learnt everything from financing and accounting to the purchasing of jewelry and became heavily invested in learning how to design and manufacture jewelry. All his hard work paid off by the age of 18 and he took over the running of entire Bhindi Fiji operations from his father. With the business well-established in Fiji, in the second generation decided to expand its operations to North America and opened its first jewelry boutique in Vancouver, Canada.
