Some may classify "Modern Rhapsodies" as a cheap joke or degrade Maxence Cyrin to a novelty, but this album and its creator are definitely more than that. Following various flings and deep phases of love for the most diverse musical styles in his youth, Cyrin who has had an education as a Classical Pianist leaves his hometown of Besancon for Paris and enters an entirely new world.
For the next couple of years, there are three important factors in his life: Elvis whom he appreciates for his smooth and soulful voice as well as incredible showmanship , Wagner - and the hymns and spirit of the nascent techno and rave scene.
Just like many others, he feels that rock and its appendant poses and rebel image are about to disappear for good and immerses in the ecstatic sensations of endless nights of dancing to the new, electronic hymns.
For fun he will, in the morning of the day after a party, perform some of his favourite tunes on his piano in stripped-down versions and from these sessions springs forth the idea of an entire album with cover versions of these dance classics.
French label "F Communications", whose founder Laurent Garnier had a hand in the techno and trance scene as well, is happy to take on the challenge together with Maxence and they release the disc as their first completely acoustic effort.
