A woman wounded in a Christmas Day shooting that left her husband dead has since died as well, Des Moines police said in a Thursday update.
The shootings occurred at p. It said an off-duty patrol officer who had heard the gunfire assisted the officers who were investigating. Officers determined that the husband had shot his wife and then himself, the update said. It said the Des Moines Fire Department took the wife to a hospital, where she died despite life-saving efforts.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek wrote in the release that the names of the couple were withheld "due to the significant traumatic impact on the surviving family.
