Detective Michaela Beth Stone is a character on Manifest. She appears in the first episode of the first season and is portrayed by starring cast member Melissa Roxburgh. Whenever Michaela had a nightmare, her mother would give her fig cookies and milk to calm her down. During her school years, she befriended two girls named Lourdes and Evie. As a teenager Michaela dated a guy who had a band and wanted to quit school to follow him on tour. Her father had a beer with him and seeing her boyfriend getting drunk with her father, the blonde lost all interest in him.
As an adult, sometime after graduating, she became a policewoman. At one point her brother married a woman named Grace , and Michaela became the aunt of two twins. Michaela has always loved her brother's children, but apparently never got along very well with her sister-in-law, who Grace feared could have a bad influence on the children. Five months before the flight , Michaela is in a car accident where her friend Evie dies.
In a flashback, we see that Evie and Michaela went out to celebrate one night and Michaela was going to be responsible by calling an uber to drive home as she is slightly too drunk to drive, to which a drunken Evie responds that she needs her car in the morning and that Michaela is totally fine to drive.
Michaela then gives in as Evie repeatedly chants "Michaela, Michaela". Unfortunately, Michaela and Evie get into a car accident and Evie sadly dies in the accident.
Michaela blames herself for Evie's death but she wasn't held responsible according to law. Evie's parents , Beverly and Glenn blamed Michaela for Evie's death and when she went to their house with Jared to give her condolences, the parents didn't want to hear it, saying "How could you come here, you are not welcome here" closing the door in her face. Michaela is proposed to by her boyfriend Jared a few months later, before the flight and she thinks about what her answer would be during her entire trip to Jamaica.
