Project leaders Prof. Katja Sabisch RUB are using a qualitative interview study, standardized questionnaires and a large online survey to find out how boys and men aged 14 to 27 experience their own gender role and what attitudes they have towards girls and women, homosexuality and gender diversity transgender and intersex.
The study participants are young men with and without a history of immigration. Using a mixed-method design of qualitative and quantitative research approaches, three different groups are therefore compared: young men without a history of migration, young men of Turkish origin from the second generation onwards and young men who have fled to Germany since Influencing factors such as socialization in the home country, the family of origin and peer groups are taken into account.
As a result, the need for action on values and norms will be identified for all three groups, which will be transferred into practice as prevention strategies against sexual violence and discrimination. To this end, the current project is already working together with various youth and refugee welfare institutions on a transdisciplinary basis in order to take into account findings from practical work in the implementation of the research and to ensure a direct transfer into practice.
