Sandra Hankin, 55, ran two illegal "high-end" bordellos in which scores of call girls advertised their services on a website telling of specialities such as 'Foot Worship', 'Face Sitting,' '2 Girl Scene' and 'Toy Show'. But her racket named Sandy's Superstars was said to have 'flourished' thanks to an agreement she made with police after her prostitutes were given regular security, plus health care checks courtesy of NHS officials during their stints.
The premises would be regularly assessed by police to check they were sticking to the deal, were also accredited with the Security Industry Authority and routinely paid its taxes with HMRC inspectors who knew women were selling illicit sexual services.
The brothels also offered memberships to punters and even publicly promoted customer reviews it got on a punters website. During raids at the brothels in Greater Manchester officers discovered the women were advertised in folders neatly on the reception coffee table. The brochures included their photographs and their specialities.
Ledgers containing detailed business records of the illicit operation were found in the couple's study and conservatory at home. Mother of one Hankin who has been married to her husband for years later said she had been an escort herself in the s and wanted to build a 'safe' brothel as she had witnessed first hand the dangers of operating in the vice industry.
At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, the Hankins pleaded guilty to keeping brothels to use for prostitution and both were sentenced to six months jail suspended for two years. The court heard how Hankin took over the Northernden brothel formerly known as Coco's in after its previous owners left - leaving her in charge and she subsequently opened the other premisis in Bury. Prosecutor Peter Cadwallader said: "Sandra Hankin was the keeper for both brothels and the leading light in the whole enterprise.
