Over the past ten years, the sudden and massive influx of Syrian refugees has put great pressure on Jordan's already fragile economy, causing tensions between the host and refugee population, exacerbated by the lack of services and poor access to employment.
COOPI aims to mitigate the impact of the humanitarian, economic and health crisis, worsened by the Covid pandemic, by promoting social cohesion, while implementing economic projects and community initiatives for the Jordanian population and Syrian refugees. In response to this difficult scenario, COOPI also implements interventions to promote access to education and child protection , educate on prevention against sexual and gender-based violence and provide psychosocial support.
In its multi-sectoral projects, COOPI applies a protection mainstream approach that combines and links its intervention on livelihoods and business development with child protection, shelter and education. In this context, COOPI intervenes on Protection to improve the living conditions of children, refugees and Jordanians, who are the most vulnerable and negatively affected by the consequences of the Syrian crisis in Jordan.
It also aims to decrease the risk and exposure to phenomena such as child labour, early marriage, abuse and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence, through an integrated system of social protection services, economic support and community involvement of boys and girls.
COOPI added value lies in its protection expertise and community-based approach, as well as in its presence on the field by collaborating with a network of different Community Based Organisations CBOs that are committed to identifying and mobilising young people, women and persons with disabilities.
