It happened Jan. A passerby called and reported seeing two individuals who possibly were armed enter the business. Surveillance cameras inside the business captured a man, identified as year-old Kelvin Dewayne Bivens , entering through the front door, pointing a handgun at four employees working inside, and instructing them to get on the ground. After the call was made, officers arrived on scene and began setting up a perimeter.
Officers who were covering the back of the business initially knocked on the back door and announced themselves as police. Not long after, Lewis exited out the back door and immediately took off running.
Moments later Bivens stuck his arm out from behind the back door, still holding the gun, and began firing. Two officers then fired back.
Bivens retreated back inside the business and attempted to exit out the front door. Officers posted on the front side of the business took him into custody without incident. Shortly after the shots were fired, the employees were able to get to the back door where officers saw them and safely removed them from the building.
Although shaken, they were not injured. Bivens was charged with one count of aggravated assault against a public servant and one count of aggravated robbery.
