Signs that inform dog owners how to prevent heat distress in their furry companions are being installed after a local dog who visited Bradfordville Dog Park succumbed to heat illness and died. Leon County Commissioner Brian Welch said the goal of these signs is to teach people about the dangers of heat illness with pets. Local dog owner Mary Black said she is grateful for the informative signs. Signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke in dogs include heavy panting, excessive drooling, red gums, rapid heart rate, skin that is hot to the touch, a rapid heart rate and difficulty maintaining balance.
