Updated: Mar 14, One of the many delights of living near Medford and Ashland is the discovery of an often overlooked camping and recreation destination. The Valley of the Rogue State Park is not an obvious choice when searching for adventure, but this park has plenty to offer for a relaxing getaway or some family fun on the beautiful Rogue River.
Located just North of Medford and Ashland, off I-5 between Rogue River and Gold Hill, the park is open year round which makes it the perfect staycation for those living nearby, or a great weekend stop for those traveling through Southern Oregon on the Interstate.
Of the park's sites, we like B loop, with it's many riverfront locations and full hookups. After settling in at your campsite, unload your bicycles for a very pleasant four mile ride along the river on the Rogue River Greenway Trail.
Not a cyclist? Take a friend, the kids, or Fido for a nice leisurely walk on this scenic stretch of the Greenway. Step off the trail to walk down to the river and take some photos of a beautiful stretch of the Rogue River. You may even see some rafts or fishing boats floating by while taking in the sights. Before wrapping up your day, Del Rio Vineyard , accessible by bicycle or car, is less than five miles away.
If this relaxing scene is not your cup of tea, head into Grants Pass for a Hellgate Jetboat excursion down the Rogue River. This river trip is not to be missed! Runs daily May through September.
