It would require excellent alignment to keep it on the track but it would remove some air resistance and some weight. And it would allow for some completely new body designs. So now I'm left with 2 questions. Is it allowed?
Based on my review of last year's rules, there is nothing that requires all 4 wheels be attached to the car. V-shaped wheels, double V wheels, or "H" shaped wheels are not allowed.
The wheels may not be cut down or narrowed. Re: Use Three Wheels Only? Specifically, how smooth is the edge of the guide rail on your track? If you build a rail rider, will a rough spot on the edge of the guide rail bounce the single front wheel far enough away from the track to cause problems?
