In a separate incident with a hoarder, Burgess discovers a kidnapped child hidden in the woman's basement.
She aspires to be a good cop, holding the veteran members of the unit in high regard. While she has a tense standing with Sgt. Platt, it is revealed by her sister that she respects her superior who pushed her to pursue going into Intelligence.
Burgess is a former flight attendant and still remains close to the friends she made in her co-workers. She is very good at her job as a patrol officer and has proved to be a good candidate for Intelligence. She has a good partnership with her partner and close friend, Kevin Atwater.
Kim sometimes goes to babysit Kevin's younger siblings. Both she and Kevin are constant targets of Desk Sergeant Platt's attitude.
