I wonder not only when I will work again but am also forced to contemplate if I will work again. Across the Atlantic, North America is still under lockdown and the US is still reeling from both the corona virus and civil unrest. As for me, I reach out when I can to the aforementioned family and friends in their malady, I occupy my time with reading and writing at home, the gym and hiking when I go out.
My problems seem so much more milder than the problems of my friends and family that I resolved to improve my communication with them and I would try and enjoy this moment before I will again find myself returning to fulltime employment. The story I am about to tell is not terribly dramatic, but it does serve as a sample of my life these days and my views of the world around me. Though I write now of events that took place twenty-five days ago, there is still a significance that remains nearly a month later.
Think of this account as a minor Mrs. Dalloway Virginia Woolf or Ulysses James Joyce in that I will try to capture my thoughts during the course of one single day to give you, gentle reader, an insight as to what sort of person your faithful blogger is. No one has asked me about my political preferences, my viewpoint on anything in society or even my desired vacation destinations.
Somehow the world has survived without my opinion and I have survived the world without being bothered about what it thinks about me. And I must confess I have yet to meet anyone of my circle of family, friends and acquaintances who has contracted the virus.
Which is not really news to anyone who is not a MAGA hypnotised by their great leader. The Swiss reader learns that many masks on offer may be unusable, that some mask providers may be dubious, that people are confused as to when, where and why they should wear a mask. While airlines are insisting that their passengers wear them despite the planes being half or almost empty. Here in Switzerland, especially in the federal capital of Bern, climate change protesters still want to assemble and depending on the day and the mood, police and the Secret Service intervene or simply observe how the social distancing regulations are being followed or disregarded.
