Though only the top three acts got a cash prize, each act got a small trophy for participating in the event. Local nonprofit organization For Goodness Snakes8, located on Front Street in Marietta and dedicated to rehabilitating exotic pets and reptiles, put on a talent competition to encourage local youth to interact with one another outside a school setting.
According to Love, her daughter is home-schooled and Love wanted to do something so the home-schooled kids feel included too. It took place over a two week period in the Marietta High School auditorium. Last Saturday, the contestants took part in an audition. The contestants had the opportunity to raise funds for the competition in order to win more points for their act. Love said they were going to have 20 acts move from the auditions to the final round, but they had 20 acts sign up.
In addition to the original prize funds, the second and third places were also awarded the money the contestants raised through donations. In return, the contestants got points added to their score. The contestants were judged on their stage presence, execution of talent, creativity, audience response and overall performance. Clara Noelle can be reached at intern newsandsentinel.
