The YWCA Greensboro Emergency Family Shelter program provides shelter, food, case management, and holistic support for families experiencing homelessness. Each family develops a plan to achieve educational goals, optimal health, financial stability, pay off debts, and save money to move into permanent housing.
Shelter residents benefit from interaction with staff, interns, and community volunteers, who model positive parenting techniques, problem solving skills, effective communication, and life skills necessary for tackling day-to-day responsibilities. On the limited amount of days when meals are not provided, staff is able to prepare a meal using the food items donated to our organization by community partners or members of the community.
Throughout the week, families work with their Family Advocate and utilize community resources to achieve goals such as gaining employment, achieving financial security, locating housing opportunities, gathering necessary documentation, and practicing life skills.
