Borge restaurant - whose menu boasts pastas, pizzas, and steaks in addition to parmos - are marking the occasion by giving back to some of the most disadvantaged people in the Stockton community. Owner Fash Khalili said, "We were talking one night about how we might mark our 40th birthday - maybe a big party with invited guests and so on. So many kids are going without because of poverty and hardship, which is not of their making.
I suggested that we identify a few local charities that do great work for children and donate money to them, instead of spending it on ourselves. The council and business work well together to try and improve things, not just moan. It really is a great town. The restaurant, which has been named "World Parmo Champions" five times, has donated cash to a number of charities.
Fash has chosen the Eastern Ravens Trust- which helps young carers; and the programme: "A Way out" who go into schools to teach year olds about healthy relationships, with partners, and friends and family members.
The restaurant is also supporting the mayor's charity funds. The night saw everyone tuck into parmos and pizza. Fash says he is a "proud Stocktonian" and he admits that he works every day and night in his Yarm Lane restaurant: "I'm hands-on. I do a bit of everything, cooking, running the place. I've always worked everyday, I always have.
