The group first came together five years ago, launching RIght from the Start , a coalition of different Rhode Island organizations that work together to campaign for early childhood causes. RIght from the Start shared an essay from a single mother named Alba, explaining that the requirement places an unfair burden on hardworking, single parents.
Along with removing that requirement, RIght from the Start advocates for the extension and expansion of the Child Care for Child Care Educators program, which helps subsidize the cost of child care for the children of people who themselves work in that field. Bueno acknowledged that not everyone gets as lucky with the lottery and that the high cost of child care is a serious issue lawmakers should be tackling. Another one of RIght from the Start's main causes is securing continuous Medicaid coverage for young children from birth until they turn three years old.

The group also advocates for expanding resources for early childhood special needs and mental health services, increasing paid family and medical leave wages and creating a state child tax credit.
