Everyone can make a difference. At Henderson Haven, we believe all individuals should have the opportunity to choose where and with whom they live, work, and play. At times, to make this right a reality, a special blend of creativity and expertise is needed.
Every child is different and has specific needs that may present challenges. Our unique programming for kids meets those needs and gives each child the skills needed for success.
Having an early start, presuming competence in everyone, and teaching instead of training helps those we serve prepare for life of true choice and inclusion. When those with special needs age out of school services, their options for continuing education and training are severely limited in availability, personalization, and funding. Henderson Haven maintains our low staff ratios in our adult programs to offer creative, individualized services enabling each person to reach for the most independent life possible.
Having a loved one with a disability can be overwhelming and leave little time to identify and explore the community resources in our area. Henderson Haven staff have years of experience, both personally and professionally, in this area and love to share this information with others.
The difference, in a nutshell, is attitude. We feel they should be involved. We know that by empowering people to make choices in their lives, they are able to reach greater independence. By including the developmentally disabled in daily activities, they learn new skills and continue to develop those they have.
